By providing your teen an excellent education in language studies, you are giving him vital skills for his life’s calling. The benefits of learning to communicate well cannot be overstated! The Abeka English program is known for excellence in its systematic study of grammar and composition, spelling and word usage, and inspiring literature.
· World Literature—Devices such as figurative language, theme, and setting are tools in the hands of writers! As your teen studies these literary devices, he will use them to enjoy and appreciate Paradise Lost, Don Quixote, and other selections by renowned world writers. A highlight is the reading and study of Julius Caesar and Silas Marner. Class discussion and essay questions build your teen’s analytic skills.
· Grammar and Composition—Your teen will be introduced to advanced grammatical concepts such as mood, objective complements, and substantives. And to new forms of writing such as a critical book review, which is part of the Author Research Project. His growing reasoning ability is strengthened through both grammatical concepts and writing applications.
· Vocabulary, Spelling, Poetry—Watch your teen’s vocabulary and thinking skills soar as he studies the origin of vocabulary words; word analysis through prefixes, roots, and suffixes; and word analogies! In addition to the 144 vocabulary words, more than 1,000 synonyms, antonyms, and related words are part of this year’s study. Memorizing Shelley’s “Ozymandias” and 9 other poems will give him a love for language and an appreciation for the best thoughts presented in the best way.
Your teen will gain lifelong benefits as he is inspired to grow in knowledge and skills by a master teacher, who provides clear explanations. The responses of your teen’s video classmates will expand his own perspective. He will feel as though he is a part of the class as the teacher pauses to allow “students watching” opportunity to participate.
The prerecorded online video streaming or DVDs give you the flexibility to set your own daily schedule. The video lease provides a full 12 months to complete the 170 lessons and 6 months to complete 85 lessons for a semester. You also have the option to purchase either the Video & Books or Video (for those who may already have some of the materials and wish to purchase individual items separately). A video manual is provided with either option to help you stay on track with the video teacher. Also, record-keeping progress reports are included with both options to document your child’s progress through the school year.
Abeka Academy offers two different program types to meet your family’s specific needs. The Unaccredited program allows for more course flexibility and relies solely on the home teacher to keep track of student records. For an additional charge, the Accredited program provides official report cards and standardized testing as well as reliable record-keeping by our academic team. With either option, academic assistance is accessible through email, live chat, or phone. Conveniently view our Homeschool Agreement before purchase to understand the requirements.
