I switched my class to this new edition this year. While I love that the pages are more colorful, and I love that the pages include critical thinking questions (clever cranium), I am not a fan of this revised edition. Those choosing to purchase this revised edition should know that it is in a totally different order. Graphs and geometry are introd

This means that even though it is spring, I have yet to cover some of the concepts that I have usually covered by now (i.e. borrowing when subtracting mixed numbers, multiplying fractions). Meanwhile, I am teaching concepts I have not taught before (i.e. comparing pie graphs, types of angles, types of shapes). Also, Sometimes the lessons skip around to different concepts and fail to review the concepts recently learned. I find myself needing to review more regularly with my students so they do not forget the small steps we have taken to get to where we are. For example, it will teach the beginning steps to measurement equations. Then it will teach graphs and not review measurement equations for several lessons. Then there is another lesson on measurement equations which adds onto what the students had learned several lessons ago. There are homework pages at the back of the book that help with reviewing concepts, but there are not enough of them. In my class, I've had to make these homework pages mandatory. It has helped some. I also have found that concepts are assessed on assessments in a different way than they are presented in the book. This has confused my students. Therefore, I have had to watch out for this and teach them how to solve the problems in a different way on my own. I also have found that there are some concepts that are not taught as specific lessons (triple digit multiplication & rules of divisibility) which has required me to stop and add lessons to the curriculum. In addition, some lessons have two big lessons included which has required me to split them. So again, while I do love that there are less problems on a page (no more crossing out green problems) and the pages are colorful, I feel like this revised edition is lacking in organization and review of key concepts. Those buying the curriculum will need to make adjustments and plan to review with your students more regularly beyond what is included in the textbook. I'd recommend keeping your old edition so you can use it to help you. Read LessRead less about I switched my class to this new
