5 Things You May Not Know About Homeschooling with Abeka Academy

As a busy mom, your time is limited. You’ve become a pro at multitasking, but sometimes there aren’t enough hours in a day. Abeka Academy could be a lifesaver for you.

Breakfast and a dove flying away

1. Provides Freedom To Homeschool Moms

Abeka Academy is an online homeschool program with video lessons taught by our master teachers. It provides all the benefits of Christian education, without the burden of developing and teaching each lesson yourself.

All you have to do is select an Abeka Academy full-grade enrollment and decide if you’d prefer to purchase the book package to go along with your videos—or if you’ll obtain the necessary texts separately. You’ll immediately receive an email link to fulfill your enrollment. From there, you begin exploring the easy-to-use dashboard, customize your calendar, keep track of lesson plans, and give your kids their daily assignments.

2. Offers Full Accreditation and College Preparatory Enrollment

Abeka Academy is a great homeschool choice for K5–12th grade because it provides your child with a college preparatory, traditional, structured education led by experienced Christian school teachers. Select the fully accredited option, or choose Independent Study (Unaccredited) if added flexibility works better for your child.

When you choose the accredited option, Abeka provides you with the official report cards and transcripts whenever you need them. These are crucial to the college application process and only available to accredited homeschool programs.

3. Features Live Help

If your child ever has questions about a subject or just needs some extra help learning a concept or skill, call our Abeka Academy helpline. A qualified academic advisor can answer your questions. You’ll even be able to log into a virtual chalkboard so you can see how your advisor diagrams a sentence or solves a problem in real-time.

4. Affordable Pricing and Payment Plans Allow Your Family Financial Freedom

According to research, the average cost of sending your child to a private school per year is $11,173. Abeka Academy offers the exact same curriculum for a fraction of the price per year. It’s hard to argue with an affordable education that allows your children to learn at home. Abeka also offers flexible payment plans to keep costs manageable for every family.

5. Gives Moms Flexibility

Abeka Academy offers homeschool moms the ability to have a full-time teacher on-site every single day, in the form of streaming video or pre-recorded DVDs. But if you’re not ready to go totally digital with your child’s curriculum, our Parent Led approach gives you the ability to pick and choose which subjects you’d prefer to be taught by a veteran Christian School teacher.

For example, if you’re looking forward to teaching English and History, but would rather have trained teachers on deck for Chemistry or Algebra, no problem. You can choose to use Abeka Academy video lessons for a single subject. Single-subject video lessons are available for all subjects in grades 7-12. For lower grades, the following single subjects are available:

  • Language Arts, Grades 1-6
  • Arithmetic, Grades 1-6
  • History, Grades 3-6
  • Science, Grades 3-6
  • Bible, K4-6

If you only want a few hours of video lessons for extra review or labs, you can do that, too. No child is the same, so we don’t expect every student to follow the same, identical path. You get to choose what works best for your child.

I love the accredited program. I'm an American living in Canada and hope to move back someday. I love that my child is getting an American education and an opportunity for an American education if she chooses.

With the accredited program, would we still need to register as a homeschooler in our county in Florida and have evaluations done? Or would the homeschooler be enrolled in abeka Academy as a private school? If enrolled with abeka accredited, do we need to turn in vaccination records to abeka? How many hours per day is required for abeka accredited kindergarten? How often do we have to turn in papers and forms to abeka? Thank you!

Hi Tara, You would need to check with your local school board as to their requirements for homeschooling in your county. No you wont need to worry about turning in any type of medical records to us. We don't have a required number of hours for the lessons each day, but you will need to complete the full 170 lessons to continue in the accredited program. You will send in progress reports to us each quarter, which is about every 9 weeks for us to review and create grade cards for.

Dear Abeka Admin, Then I assume that since no medical records are to be turned in, that your program is not an official private school with the state? Therefore, the student would need to be registered with their county? From what I have read, the accredited program provides an official transcript and diploma upon high school graduation showing completion of the typical required courses necessary for graduation.

We do provide transcripts though our accredited program, and upon graduation from the accredited program we do provide the student a diploma. You will need to check with your county as for what their specific regulations are regarding homeschooling.

I would also like to know if Abeka Academy is self paced? Are there other options? My daughter may have to repeat the 4th grade at her school and I would like to see if I could redo the grade at home and get her ready to go to 5th grade before school starts again next year.

We're happy to hear of your interest of Abeka Academy! Our program is self-paced. You have 12 months to finish a year of schooling, but you can choose to finish it in 6 or 9 months if that better suits your needs.

Hi!! I’m really looking to do abeka for our homeschooling! But we live in Canada! Is the program eligible for those who live in Canada? And is it credible here if we do the accredited? Are there Canadians having success with it here? Wondering how it all works for those who live in Canada!

We're excited to hear of your interest in Abeka Academy! We do offer our program internationally, and you can also enroll in the accredited program. As far as requirements, you'll have to get in contact with your local school board since everyone's homeschool laws are different.

I’m confused on the self-paced aspect of the Academy. I read self-paced but also read you turn things in quarterly (every 9 weeks). So is there a certain amount of lessons required each quarter or it’s just a check to see where you are in reference to the 170 lessons for that 12 months? Also, is it a start any time of the year and just finish it by 12 months after that start?

Our Abeka Academy program is flexible since we give you anywhere from 6-12 months to finish an enrollment, and you can adjust your due dates to fit your chosen amount of time. You can begin anytime and choose your own convenient start date, and you will have 12 months from that date to finish your enrollment.

Yes. However, you can purchase one as tuition only and one as tuition and books if you don't mind them sharing books. This will help save some money.

Hi-I was wondering if each grade would get a certificate or not for completing that grade.
Also-does the curriculum come with instructions on how to determine the grade for the progress reports as well as the reports to mail in each quarter?
Thanks!

Hi Brittiny! You'll receive all the helpful information necessary to grade and record their grades. Unless you are enrolled in the accredited program, you will not receive completion certificates. If you are enrolled in the accredited program you will get a diploma for successfully completing the 12th grade.

I was homeschooled with abeka from 1st grade until 5th grade, many many years ago. I know what kind of education that was provided. I am interested in homeschooling my daughter due to the Pandemic.
1st question- I remember going to testing sites towards the end of each year. Is that still done?
2nd question- If I enroll my daughter for 2nd grade and lets say January the pandemic ends ( God Willing) and I choose to send her back to school with kids. Will I face any problems with abeka? Just inform the company of that choice?
Thank you.

If you want to move your child to in-person schooling, you will have no issue as long as you keep track of your child's records (unless you do the accredited program, then we will be keeping track for you). We do offer end-of-the-year testing if you'd like your child to participate in that.
