What better way for you and your children to celebrate spring than to make your very own bouquet? God created every flower to be unique in both appearance and purpose, and did you know they each have their own special meaning? Read on to learn how to create a lovely flower arrangement that won’t wither!

What You’ll Need

• Construction paper (white, yellow, light blue, pink, light green)
• Ruler
• Scissors
• Glue stick
• Stout paper straws
• Thin paintbrush or tool to curl paper
• Pencil
• Hole punch
• Green painter’s tape (optional)
• Glue stick

The Stem

• Cut a 1 ½-inch strip of green construction paper.
• Place a thick layer of glue along one side.
• Take a stout paper straw and roll the paper onto the straw, holding firmly until the glue has dried and the paper does not budge.
• Alternatively, you can use green straws or wrap with green painter’s tape.

The Stamen

• Cut two 4 1/2-inch strips of yellow construction paper and fold each strip in half, bringing the short ends together.
• Cut them down to the desired stamen length, leaving about an inch at the bottom
• Wrap each strip around a paintbrush so they curl outward.
• Pinch the bottom folded crease in half to allow the stamens to fit snugly into the straws.

The Flowers

Lily

The lily is a perfect flower for Easter, representing love, purity, and devotion. Lilies spend time growing as bulbs underground before they come to life as the gorgeous blooms that we know and love!

• Place your hand on a pink piece of construction paper and use the pencil to trace around it.
• Cut out the hand and roll the paper around the straw from the base of the thumb to overlap the base of the pinky. Glue firmly in place.
• Curl the petals outward.
• Add the stamen to the straw in the center of the flower.

Daisy

Jesus was crucified for our sins despite being innocent, so it’s no surprise that daisies, a gorgeous symbol of innocence, can be used to remember his death and resurrection!

• Draw and cut a circle about 4-5 inches in diameter.
• Draw a smaller circle in the middle measuring 1 inch in diameter and then make a mark every 1/2 inch around the circle. Draw petals outward as shown in the photo.
• Repeat the previous steps with a second circle so that you have two layers of petals.
• Place one flower on top of the other and punch a hole in the middle with a hole punch to create an opening wide enough for the straw to fit through snugly.
• Add the stamen to the middle of the flower and curl the flower petals upward.

Hyacinth

The sweet-smelling hyacinths that bloom every spring are known to represent peace. This is why they are yet another perfect symbol to use during Easter, as we know that Jesus is the bringer of peace into our lives because of his sacrifice.

• Take a piece of blue, pink, or purple construction paper and make 1/2 inch markings from the top to the bottom of the longest side.
• Cut off a 2 ½-inch long strip from the opposite side.
• Using the first 1/2 inch markings as a guide, cut long thin strips from one side to the other, leaving a ½-inch border along the opposite side.
• Once cut, add a thick layer of glue to the border and wrap around the stem, angling it in a downward spiral about 3 inches down the length of the stem.
• Once the glue is dry, curl each of the strips tightly and unfurl only slightly to make them appear more bunched.
