We love science! This DIY Geode is sure to inspire a zeal for science in your kids too. Watch the crystals form in just 4 days!

STEP 1: Gather your supplies: detergent booster*, white pipe cleaners, string, scissors, three heat-safe glass jars, a measuring cup, food coloring, and three clothes pins.

*Please note that due to some ingredients, this craft is for children over 12 only.

STEP 2: To create the base for the crystal, wrap the pipe cleaners to form a coil to create a dome-like shape. Try to make the disc as dense as possible, with not very much empty space. The denser the coil, the better, as the crystals need something to adhere to. Cut three, 10 inch long pieces of string and thread one through the outer ring of each coil. Wrap the other end of the string around the clothespin and set aside.

STEP 3: Pour 1 1/2 cups of water into each of the three heat safe jars. Put 20 drops of food coloring in each jar of water. Place the jars in the microwave and cook on high heat for three minutes. Carefully remove the jars from the microwave with an oven mitt, as they will be very hot. Then pour 1/2 cup of detergent booster in each jar while slowly stirring. Make sure that all of the borax is thoroughly dissolved in each jar.

STEP 4: Lower a pipe cleaner coil on a string in each solution and rest the clothespin on the rim of the jar. Place aside and let the geodes form for 3 to 4 days. After 3 or 4 days, remove the new geodes from the solution and allow to dry on a paper towel. Cut off the string and enjoy your new crystal geodes!
