Since geometry is such a different subject for students and is more logic-based than math-based, I would love to see an update to the text or a complete re-work of the test to incorporate more connections for students to follow rather than just jumping right to difficult, fill-in-the-blank proofs. The textbook seems to be written at a college level. You will not get the impression that the course is written to help students really get a solid grasp on Geometry. Instead, it seem to be written as if the reader is a college math teacher with a large vocabulary explaining concepts to their peers. a number of words that are assumed the student knows (Ex: panacea, loci). While this is not necessarily a bad thing, but could be worded in an way that is easier to understand. There are concepts that are not clear and that are assumed the student already understands. We ended up finding some lessons on line that did a much better job at explaining and showing the concepts. It is my opinion this course is appropriate to only the extremely intelligent math loving student, not the average student. I appreciate Abeka’s desire to have high standards in learning, but it would be nice if it were written in a clearer manner that more students could understand. I would assume most students are not going on to be mathematicians so it would be nice if it were taught in a way that reached the majority of students.
