Why We Changed

Similarities

Because every family is unique, everyone homeschools a little differently!

But no matter how you homeschool (or whether you choose accredited or unaccredited) there are always a few main things on your to-do list.

Here’s a checklist:

  • Inform your local school district that you’ll be homeschooling your child.
  • Contact your local school district or homeschool authority to make sure you’re complying with
    • the academic standards,
    • health/immunization requirements,
    • standardized testing requirements, and
    • school attendance requirements of your state.
  • Supervise work.
  • Check your child’s progress with quizzes and tests.
  • Keep records of projects/tests showing progress, courses taken, days spent schooling, extracurricular activities, and grades. (If you choose accredited, we’ll prepare official progress reports, report cards, and a transcript for you.)
  • If your child is planning to go to college, you should have him take the ACT or SAT since it’s required by most colleges.

Differences

Choosing the accredited option can help

  • Keep you on track
  • Give you peace of mind
  • Meet state or college-entry requirements more easily

Because of accreditation by FACCS and MSA CESS, when you enroll in the accredited program you’ll be asked to . . .

  • Fill out proof of completion for enrollments in grades 2–9.
  • Send in transcripts of all previous high school courses for enrollments in grades 10–12.

While you’re doing school, you’ll be asked to . . .

  • Follow the accredited high school plan of study to meet graduation requirements.
  • Make sure your child watches all video lessons.
  • Send tests & quizzes to Abeka Academy periodically for evaluation.
  • Return required course work to Abeka Academy within 6–12 months of your begin date.

super easy

I grade the tests whenever they take them, and so whenever I send in my progress report, they’re already graded. I just toss them in an envelope and send them off. It’s super easy. I enjoy it. I like the fact that somebody else is seeing what my kids are doing. I don’t grade my writing tests. Abeka grades them for me. So then I feel like I see what their standard is for the grading. I like that.

Accreditation

FACCS

Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools

Abeka Academy Accredited program, having satisfied the accreditation standards of the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) [1429 Bethel Church Road, Omega, GA 31775; Telephone: (850) 422-0065; email: ops@faccs.org] has been awarded the status of Full Accreditation. In keeping with accreditation standards, our video teachers undergo certification through FACCS. Full Accreditation through FACCS provides additional national and state recognition with the following affiliations: The National Council of Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) is a consortium of accrediting associations for the recognition of early childhood, elementary, and secondary private schools and serves as a national review panel for the standards and review procedures of private school accrediting associations.

Florida Association of Academic Nonpublic Schools (FAANS) membership represents all of the major nonpublic school faith-based and non-sectarian Associations in Florida and thus encompasses the majority of the nonpublic schools within Florida. Affiliation with FAANS functions as a vital link between nonpublic schools and the Florida Legislature and the Florida Department of Education.

MSA CESS

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools

Abeka Academy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA CESS) [3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104; Telephone: (267) 284-5000; email: info@cess-msa.org]. MSA CESS accredits early-childhood through post-secondary institutions throughout the United States and member institutions in more than 85 countries around the world. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools is recognized by national and international communities as the leader in both improving the quality of education through the accreditation process and affirming to the public the trustworthiness of its accredited members for the twenty-first century.

Students of any race, color, or national origin who are academically qualified may apply for enrollment. Abeka Academy reserves the right to deny enrollment to any student who does not meet admission requirements.

You can enroll your children at any time during the year. For fastest service, complete fall enrollments early in the summer; processing may be slower in July through September because of the volume of enrollments.
